OpenAI Unveiled New “Reasoning” AI Model

Saw that OpenAI has released a new Artificial Intelligence model that includes the ability to reason. While the ChatGTP model is still better for every day applications, the new o1 model is said to be best suited for very complex queries that ChatGTP is not suited for.

These new models are designed to spend more time “thinking” before they respond, which allows them to reason through complex tasks more effectively than previous models¹².

Here are some key features of OpenAI o1:

  1. Enhanced Reasoning: OpenAI o1 can handle complex reasoning tasks, such as coding, problem-solving, and scientific research. It ranks highly on competitive programming questions and performs well on benchmarks for physics, biology, and chemistry¹².
  2. Self-Fact-Checking: One of the standout features of OpenAI o1 is its ability to fact-check itself. By spending more time considering all parts of a question, it can avoid some of the reasoning pitfalls that typically trip up generative AI models².
  3. Models Available: There are two main versions available:
  • o1-preview: This model has strong reasoning capabilities and broad world knowledge.
  • o1-mini: A smaller, more efficient model aimed at code generation, which is faster and more cost-effective¹².
  1. Applications: OpenAI o1 is well-suited for tasks that require synthesizing the results of multiple subtasks, such as analyzing legal briefs, brainstorming product marketing strategies, and solving complex logic puzzles²
